Norbert Matzdorf (1951 – 2013) was born in Bernburg (GDR). After training as a typographer, he began studying “Free Painting” with Prof. Joseph Beuys at the Düsseldorf Academy in 1970. He later developed his skills self-taught. His preferred working techniques have changed several times over the years. He initially worked on oil painting and paper collages. This was followed by experimentation with photography and various printing techniques such as screen printing and etching.
